Biography

Born 25 August 1966 in Greater London, Tracy-Ann grew up in a Jewish family in North London. She attended Heathfield School for Girls and initially went on to study Classics at Leeds University. After a year, her passion for acting took over and she transferred to Manchester University before training at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In 1991, she went on to spend a term at Moscow Art Theatre School.

 

Upon graduation, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in productions like Tamburlaine, Macbeth, The Changeling, and A Christmas Carol. Her Theatre career has continued to grow, with leading roles in Fiddler on the roof, Noises Off, The Windsor’s Endgame, The Merchant of Venice 1936, and many more selling out west end stages time and time again. 

She made her TV debut in Casualty in 1997, followed by sketch work on Comedy Nation, Big Train, and Lenny Henry in Pieces. Before becoming a household name when she joined the cast of  EastEnders playing Chrissie Watts, from 2004-05.

She quickly becoming a fan favourite and made a brief but very well received return to the show in September 2024. Her acting credits are vast and include appearances in Doctor Who, Friday Night Dinner, Toast of London, After Life, It's A Sin, Ridley Road and Code 404 to name but a few. 

 

Her passion project, a reimagining of The Merchant of Venice set in 1936 London, saw Tracy-Ann play the first ever female Shylock. Selling out UK stages, RSC venues and the West End not once but twice, receiving a well deserved what’s on stage nomination in the process. Amid the Israel-Gaza conflict, the production implemented enhanced security-a sobering testament to its power. 

 

A passionate campaigner for Antisemitism Tracy-Ann was well deservingly appointed an MBE by King Charles Ill for her services to Holocaust education and combatting antisemitism in June 2025.
